Draft One Kelli Moland
Gabby watched the sunset set with the colors of orange and yellow in a haze. She also let the ocean breeze take hold of her hair, and the smell of freshness she inhaled every chance she got. As she walked along the private beach the sand squished in between her toes. Gabby was in love with her southern home on the Golf of Mexico. She was a tall young lady, with flowing long brown hair midway down her back. She owned and inherited her entire estate that included a lighthouse, private beach, an orange grove and a lot of money from her parent’s tragic deaths. Gabby was a happy go-lucky kind of girl and volunteered at the local children hospital. She was a puppeteer and adored her puppets. All the children laughed at their jokes and listened carefully to the meaningful stories produced by Gabby and Pals. All of the townspeople felt sorry for Gabby because of her parent’s murders. On the outside Gabby looked like a normal person. She held a job, hobbies, and enjoyed to entertain company. Everyone in the town saw her go to Doc. Regis once a week. No one knew why. Regis is a well-known man around the town, with a wife and two small children. Rumors started to flare up about the two. Most of the townspeople tried to defend her saying there might be something wrong with her, while the town gossip Sarah Craft insisted on an affair. Gabby had no certain someone in her life and Doc. Steven Regis had an unhappy marriage. During the day Gabby was at the hospital with her puppets. She told stories and acted out all kinds of scenes. She was really good. The children she worked for were cancer patients and deathly ill. She gave them something to look forward to. At night she lived a very private life, full of mystery. Sarah Craft always said she was a weirdo and swears up and down she saw her talking to her puppets as if they were real. Other town gossips said she was practicing her scenes for the children. Her house always had its curtains shut and door locked. No one entered her house after 7:00 pm. There was one exception; Doc. Regis always made house calls to her house at 9:00 pm on the dot. Finally Sarah Craft being as nosey as she are, followed Gabby home one night. Gabby went to the store on her way home and also went to the local pharmacy to pick up a prescription. Once they made it to Gabby’s beach house, Gabby went in and immediately shut the door and locked it. Sarah couldn’t stand for that so she rang the doorbell. There was no answer, and she knew she was home. So she called her from her cell phone, and still no answer. Sarah finally left the porch, and went snooping around the premises. There was a window that seemed to lead into the kitchen, which had no blinds. So Sarah sat and watched for anything and everything. Gabby popped around the corner to the fridge. She was yelling at something or someone, so Sarah put her ear up to the glass and tried to watch with her right eye to see who it was. “I’m getting it! Hold on.” Screamed Gabby. “Hold on I said. I know you can’t reach the fridge and are hungry, you’ve told me this four times before.” Then it got quiet, Sarah stood on her tiptoes to observe and to try to understand that conversation, since no one but Gabby was there. “It just doesn’t make since,” exclaimed Sarah. Gabby and friend finally came back into the kitchen to get a glass of water. As they were getting the glass, Sarah noticed that there was a puppet on her hand. “I knew it, She is insane” whispered Sarah in a cocky tone. As Sarah was making her trip home, another conversation started. So she stayed a little bit longer. “I’m sorry I got your foot wet. It was in the way of the faucet. Don’t yell at me! I said I was sorry. No, you are the one who keeps bringing the water up. It will dry, I swear. You’re right we shouldn’t fight. I’m sorry. Friends again?” said Sally talking to the little puppet on her hand. Sarah got a kick out of this, and ran home to tell her husband. On her way home she saw Doc. Regis’s car passing her. “Oh, no I am not missing this!” she exclaimed. As the car passed she looked down at the road, while Steven Regis stared at her. Steven turned into Gabby Richard’s driveway. Sarah turned the car around and waiting a moment, not to make it look obvious. She pulled in by the big oak tree that was at the end of the driveway and parked. She ran up to the down Regis was ringing the doorbell in a certain rhythm and the door opened automatically. Regis walked in. Before the door shut, Sarah put her foot in the door, and then slipped in. Sarah and Gabby used to be friends while Gabby’s parents where alive, so she knew the house well. She followed the voices she heard. “ How are you today my dear Gabby” asked Steven. “I’m okay, Sally Sue got mad at me because I got her foot wet. She was making me very angry, and I remembered what you said but I didn’t listen. I killed her Doctor! That is why I need you over here. She’s gone! I drowned her in the toilet and tried to flush her remains.” Shouts Gabby. “Oh, Gabby! Lets go to the bedroom, and talk.” said Steven. Sarah was thinking in her head, “Oh my lord, she killed Sally, and now they are going to her bedroom to mourn? What in the world is going on?” After she heard that and got freaked out, she started to run out the door. But on her way out she tripped over the corner table. Then Steven and Gabby heard the loud thump and ran down stairs. There they found Sarah lying at the bottom, she was knocked unconscious. The next day Sarah arose to breakfast in bed and a throbbing headache. She didn’t know where she was or who she was. She heard a knock at the door and didn’t know what to expect so she gradually got up and opened the door. A stage entered the room that puppets perform on. Sarah sat down to watch the show. She was laughing at the jokes and interacting with them. Gabby was behind the stage and looked up at her and said, that she has been a bad girl. Sarah didn’t know what to think except run. She ran to the door and fell down the steps. She got up in a spilt second, and just ran out the door into her car. She knew the car was hers but she still didn’t know who she was. She arrived into town bloody and scared. Her neighbors where at the local barbers and decided to help her out. They took her to the only doctor in town. That doctor was Doc. Regis. “Doctor Doctor it’s an emergency! Something is wrong with Sarah! Help Help!” screamed frantically the people. They brought her in and quickly left her to be treated with the doctor and waited in the waiting room. In the operation room, Sarah was screaming and kicking. She was frightened by the presence of Steven. “You, you! You are a sick man! Don’t touch me! Help!’ Sarah screamed. “Sarah, you are in good hands calm down and let the doctor have a look. Boy, Doc she’s having some trouble.” Exclaimed the nurse. “Now Sarah, hold still, this is a shot to help you calm down. Nurse you might have to go and get the restraints if she doesn’t let me give her this here shot.” Said Doc. Regis. “Okay Doctor” “You aren’t touching me! Let me go! Help! Police! Someone anyone, this man is crazy.” Screamed Gabby. “Nurse go get the restraints.” Said Doctor Regis. While the nurse was getting the restraints, Regis exclaimed to Gabby that she was insane. He leaned over her. She examined his facial features. She noticed his deep sunken eyes, with bags under them probably from sleep deprivation. He had long wrinkle or laugh lines as some say. She admired them; underneath this horrible monster there was a softer kind of man. Sarah just sat there, and then the image of Gabby talking to her puppets came into her mind again. She started to freak out but constantly continued to stare at his wrinkles. They reminded her of her husband, then her memory started to come back. She started to remember who she was and what she saw. She screamed and screamed for help, no one would answer her call. A storm started to form over the hills and was moving at a fast pace. The bright blue skies were no more. It was dark and mysterious and a fog covered the ground out side. Thunder and lightening was outrageous. Trees were blowing over and getting stuck left and right. Suddenly a bolt of lightening struck the power box to the doctor’s office. Sarah was stuck in a room with the doctor. “Doctor the back up generators should be coming on, I can’t get in there the door, and the doors won’t open. Stupid automatic doors.” “It’s ok nurse she has calmed down right, Sarah?” “Let me out you creep! I heard you and Gabby last night, she killed someone, and and and you two are having an affair. I know you went to her room! What is wrong with everyone, no one believes me! Help” Shut up Sarah, you don’t know what you are talking about you foolish little bitch. Take this shot, take it now.” The doctor took the shot and jabbed it into any part of her skin he could find. He couldn’t see and ended up stabbing her in the heart with the injection of morphine in all this confusion and hatred. He heard her gasp for air. “The generators are kicking in doctor.” Suddenly the lights came on and he saw the damage he done. There was Sarah, with shredded clothes and an empty needle of morphine standing straight up in her chest. The morphine was injected into her heart. Sarah was lying there gasping for her last breath and shut her eyes after a strenuous fight till the end. Then he had quickly discovered what he had done and started to go insane and stuttering and also speaking in a fast pace under his breathe, as he planed on what to do with Sarah. “It it it was an accident. I didn’t mean to do it. Oh my lord. Help me now. All I wanted was for her to calm down. I must hide the body I can’t go to jail for this. No one has saw this yet. I have to hurry Nurse Jansen will see though, Oh my reputations, my honors, my hard work… it’s… it’s over! I can’t let this be. I’ll hide her for now then I will burry her later. Yes.. Yes.. That is what I’ll do I’ll just burry her. Oh lord help me.” He quickly threw Sarah over his right shoulder. He was an older man so every time he moved he seemed in pain a little bit more than before. He hid her in the Janitor closet and locked the door until he could dispose of her later. The nurse came in and asked where Sarah was. “Oh I let her go home, she said she was only testing our quick response to an emergency, and since the power was out she wanted to go home and watch her children. ‘ he said in a worried sad tone. “Doctor are you okay? You are sweating, and very red. Looks like you’ve had some exercise. “ She said kidding. “No!” screamed the doctor. The nurse backed off and since the lights had just came on Steven decided to close for the night unless it was an emergency. He packed his leather medicine bag, grabbed his long black coat and was reaching for his umbrella when he noticed that the men from the barber shop that had brought Sarah there were sitting in the waiting room. He just looked at them while they were mumbling back and forth. “Sarah… Sarah went home a while ago no; need no need to worry now. Go on home to your families, the storm is supposed to be getting worse. Better hurry along.” He rushed out the doors and got in his car. He sat there for a while and just cried. Then he became very angry and upset. Screaming it was the Little Bitch’s fault. Then he grabbed a bottle of pills and took some. Steven then settled down and drove off. First he went to his house, to make sure his wife had gotten in safely and to make sure the kids were in bed. When he arrived home there was supper made on the table and candles lit everywhere for a source of light. The candles let off a flower sent and it suited the house well. The house was a two story old Victorian with columns and tons of antiques. It had a gorgeous set up. Pictures and trophies hung on the walls and also on the entertainment center. The pictures showed Stevens achievements, some charities his contributes to, him working with kids to promote good health, his kids and wife, family portraits and also family vacations. He walked in and admired what he has, and started to tear up. He didn’t want to miss the chance to watch his children grow up or the next trip to the beach. “Hello Honey, did you have a rough day?” asked his wife Sonya. “Yeah it was quit busy and with this storm heading in, there is going to be a lot of trouble tonight. Just worried. The kids okay?” “Oh yeah, there is dinner in the microwave for you, but Yes, the children are. They ate, washed up and did homework, now they are asleep. Little Tommy, was scared of the storm and asked for his daddy, but I had to tell him that you were at working, saving lives.” “Yes.. Yes.. That is what I do is save lives. No I’m not hungry but thank you anyways.” His pager went off. “Sorry Babe, it’s a patient I must go” He kissed his wife and left. He drove out to the beach and met up with Gabby. She had a bad feeling, and needed some medication before something bad would happen. They got in his car to drive back to her house. They arrived at her mansion and went upstairs. He smelled something burning and asked if she was burning anything. She said no but couldn’t be to sure. He saw black, thick smoke rolling out of her bathroom, and then rushed in. There were all of her puppets in the bathtub burning. “They needed to die, they only wanted my money. Sarah, Sarah started this. She is the only one who is crazy. I had to, you see, if the hospital would have found out I am… I am not all there upstairs; they wouldn’t let me play again. I did it for the best you see.” Gabby exclaimed, and sat on the floor to weep. She rocked back and forth curled in a ball holding her knees in her chest. ‘It’s okay Gabby, Sarah is dead. No one will know.” They went to her room, and underneath her nightstand Doctor Regis got out a box. He reached in his pocket and pulled out a key. He unlocked the box, which was a safe where she kept her addicting medicine for her multiple personalities, and only the doctor could issue them. They kept them at her house to keep it a secret. She could lose everything she has and didn’t want that. Ten minutes pasted after she had taken the pills. She calmed down and then decided to talk about what happened to Sarah. He told her he acciedently had killed her, and hid her in the closet. They made a plan to burry her in the family cemetery by Gabby’s house. |
